Sensible World of Soccer was meant to be out for the Xbox Live Arcade today. Well, it's not there (on the marketplace). Actually, it WAS there. Just that it's gone now. You can't download it anymore. Why? Because once again, they've fucked up. They messed up big time.
This game was originally planned for release back in August. It was delayed for four months so that they can rework the net code for better online play. At 9am this morning, many fans rushed to download the game. As soon as the game loads up, it disconnects you from Xbox Live. This is just laughable really considering that they spent so long fixing bugs. As a result, Microsoft has already pulled the download of the game from the Marketplace. Only the few lucky ones who woke up early this morning managed to download it. I wonder how much longer we have to wait for a fix.
Edit: A statement has made by Microsoft on the Codemasters SWOS forums. See Below:
"It has come to our attention that an incorrect version of Sensible World of Soccer was made available on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft® which has since been taken down. This version incorrectly disconnected users that attempted to connect to Xbox LIVE.
We are currently investigating the issue and will have a correctly functioning version of Sensible World of Soccer available soon.
Any users that have already downloaded Sensible World of Soccer will need to delete their copy of the game and download it again when the correctly functioning version is available in order to enjoy online play via Xbox LIVE. Following this process does not incur any additional charges.
Please look out for the fully functional version of Sensible World of Soccer soon. We thank you for your patience."
Update 20:57: It seems that Codemasters have released a statement. They're pointing their fingers at Microsoft. So maybe they have uploaded the wrong version like they said earlier? If so, then why is it taking so long? No timeframe has been given by anyone official yet. My guess is that if it's not Codemasters fault, then it will be out soon (by the end of the week). If it needs Codemasters to fix a few things again, then good luck seeing it released this year. Again, this is just a wild guess.
Here's the statement in full,
"As many of you who have already downloaded SWOS have noticed there is a problem with the online play in today’s release which unfortunately was beyond our control.
Microsoft are currently looking into a fix and will post a new download as soon as possible.
Unfortunately this means the version which was available this morning had to be taken down.
We realise you have been waiting a long time for this release already and you continued patience is appreciated."
Update 20/12/07 12:48: An update from Major Nelson says that a team is working on the problem throughout the night. He will update us again around 8pm GMT or 12pm PST. It looks like we'll be getting this game this side of Christmas after all. Come back here to stay informed.
Update 20/12/07 22:30: This is what Major Nelson has said, "No news yet on the SWOS. I can tell you that NO ONE is sitting on their hands and everyone is working to get this out as fast as they can." Keep checking back here to stay up to date.
Update 21/12/07 01:13: It has just hit 5pm (PST) and it looks like Major Nelson has gone home for the day. This is what he has just said, "No SWOS news yet...I am hoping tomorrow to have hard information to share." Let's hope it comes 2moro.
Update 21/12/07 21:20: SWOS is now available on the Xbox Live marketplace.

super gay :(
So maybe we should start some bets going on when you think the game will be fixed. I bet an imaginary five quid that it'll be out in 2008.
I'm betting on Christmas Eve, and if not Mid January. I don't like the way they are keeping us in the dark though, why not just come out and say what the balls up was? Would love to know how this is Microsoft's problem to fix?
