If you haven't heard already, writers for TV shows and movies in America are on strike because they don't get any royalties from DVD sales or online sales etc. Something along those lines anyway:)
But what we're most interested in is how this affects us the consumers. I'm going to list a few popular shows and where they stand at present (By popular shows, I mean the ones that I watch:P). Of course, a lot of the new seasons of these shows haven't even started to air in the UK yet. So by the time they start airing, you might find that the strike is over.
Heroes has just completed Volume 2: Generations last night in America. That is a total of 11 episodes for series 2. Originally, series 2 was planned to have twenty-something episodes in total which covers both Volumes 2 and 3. However, 11 episodes have been written and 11 episodes have been aired. As far as anyone knows, last night in America was the series 2 finale. As for UK viewers, BBC2 is airing the two final episodes of series 1 back to back tomorrow at 9pm. No word on when BBC2 will be airing series 2 though but rumour says that they will start airing shortly after series 1. My guess will be after the new year. Afterall, the BBC spent around £400,000 per episode for the rights.
Lost has a total of 8 episodes written and currently, it is due to start in America in February.
24 has 8 episodes written but the premiere in America has been delayed until a time when the strike is over. FOX plans to air all 24 episodes without a break.
Dexter has completed series 2 in anticipation of the strike. Unfortunately, I don't know if this great show is broadcasting series 1 in the UK. Let me know if I'm wrong.
Journeyman has 13 episodes completed. This is one of the new shows I am watching. The problem is that a full first season hasn't been ordered yet*. If the strike goes on for months, this could be a show that will just simply be forgotten. It is currently being broadcasted on Sky One in the UK.
Life has 11 episodes completed. The eleventh episode will be shown in America on Wednesday. This is another new show but unlike Journeyman, a full first season has been ordered. Though the first series may well end at episode 11, a second series is more likely to be produced than Journeyman.
* A full season is roughly 22 episodes
